10 Most Wholesome Family Moments In Grey’s Anatomy

While Grey’s Anatomy is about surgery, many storylines focus on the characters and their families. These are just some of their sweetest moments.

While Grey’s Anatomy features some incredible surgeries, it has been heartwarming watching main character Meredith Grey bond with her family members, especially her half-sisters.

While Meredith began her internship at the hospital thinking that she would be mostly going it alone, she eventually met Lexie and Maggie, and she was also given the opportunity to see her parents, Ellis and Thatcher, again. Meredith has always considered her friends to be family and while she did become super close with Cristina and Alex, her storylines have often revolved around her relatives.

There are many scenes on Grey’s Anatomy involving family members connecting or being kind to one another, whether they involve Meredith’s family members or some of the other main characters.

Adele Rushed Home After Richard’s Surgery (S2 Ep2)

In season 1, Richard was involved in a major storyline after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Although he wanted to keep it a secret, he was soon surprised to see Adele rushing through his door. While Richard was a little upset that he had ruined her trip, fans thought it was quite sweet how quick Adele was to reassure him that it wasn’t as important as helping her partner through this tough time.

Although Richard and Adele had a dramatic relationship, and their love story was often tinged with sadness, viewers did see that they truly loved one another by the way they gave each other support.

Meredith Made Lexie Breakfast (S4 Ep11)

Although Lexie and Meredith’s relationship was strained at first, they made significant progress in season 4 when Meredith decided to make Lexie breakfast (“Lay Your Hands On Me”). After Lexie lost her first major patient, Meredith made Lexie breakfast to try and cheer her up; however, this ended up being a bit of a disaster, as Lexie was allergic to eggs, so when she got to work later on that day, she had a rash.

While it might just appear to be a simple moment to anyone else, this was a big moment in Lexie and Meredith’s relationship as it was the moment Meredith began to acknowledge that Lexie was her sister.

It was also a pretty wholesome moment as fans saw Lexie’s face light up at the thought of Meredith cooking for her (which was something she never did initially). Meredith seemed cold to many viewers in the beginning but she became a better character with time, and this is a great example, as she began to be there for Lexie.

Meredith Invited Maggie To Hang Out (S11 Ep7)

The season 11 episode “Could We Start Again, Please” featured a wholesome family moment between half-sisters Maggie and Meredith. Although their relationship begun strained, Meredith extended an olive branch to Maggie when she invited her to hang out at Alex’s house.

This was a nice scene that gave everyone the chance to get to know Maggie better, and it was a fairly normal gathering, considering how worried Meredith was when Maggie first arrived at the hospital. Fans enjoyed watching these two characters become closer and this can be seen as the beginning.

Meredith, Maggie, And Amelia Enjoyed Some Slushies Before Amelia And Owen’s Wedding (S12 E24)

One of the biggest moments in the season 12 finale was Amelia and Owen’s wedding, and when Amelia wasn’t sure that she could go through with it, she left. Maggie and Meredith went with her and they enjoyed some slushies, which was definitely a wholesome thing to do and a scene that stands out to fans as they calmed her down.

This was a sweet family moment on the show as no one gave Amelia any advice or lectures. Maggie and Meredith knew that she needed people in her corner and so they were willing to keep her company, no matter which decision she made. This was also a great example of the sisterly connection between Maggie, Meredith, and Amelia.

Meredith Had Dinner With Thatcher And Susan (S3 Ep18)

In the season 3 episode “Scars And Souvenirs,” Meredith was seen to briefly get closer to Susan and Thatcher after they began to regularly visit her after the death of Ellis. Although it wasn’t the most pleasant or successful gathering since Thatcher kept getting his children mixed up, it was sweet to see Meredith’s bond with Susan grow. She once told Lexie that she was very fond of Susan, and in these rare moments, it was clear that Meredith appreciated everything she did for her.

In the season 16 episode “Put on a Happy Face,” Amelia gave birth to son, Scout, and Link was right there, telling her that Amelia and the baby boy were both beautiful.

This was an incredibly wholesome moment, as Link and Amelia were thrilled to embark on this parenting journey. While there had been lots of drama leading up to this moment with their families, fans were glad that Amelia and Link refused to let them tarnish the happiness they had with each other.

Meredith Made Sure Maggie’s First Surgery Went Well After Diane Died (S13 Ep19)

The season 13 episode ‘What’s Inside’ saw Maggie performing surgery for the first time since she lost her mother. Meredith was concerned about her and kept making sure that she was alright, asking how she was doing beforehand and watching from the gallery. Although they had not known each other for long, some fans believe this to be a wholesome moment as it showed that Meredith would always be there to support and help Maggie, no matter what.

Derek Fixed Zola’s Halloween Costume (S10 Ep7)

While Grey’s Anatomy shows surgeries and diagnoses in each episode, the doctors do celebrate holidays, too, which always adds a fun element to the show.

In the season 10 episode “Thriller,” Meredith wanted Derek to fix Zola’s costume, as her butterfly wings had a rip in them. It was adorable watching Derek figure out how to make this better, and Ben worked on it with Derek, which was a nice moment between these two characters as well.

Lexie Babysat Zola And Arranged A Playdate (S8 Ep14)

In the season 8 episode ‘All You Need Is Love,’ Lexie bonded with Zola when she babysat her. She took Zola for a drive and went to Mark’s place, and she had dinner with Mark and Jackson and Zola played with Sofia.

Lexie had formed a bond with Zola and she knew that she would have a great time with Sofia. It was really sweet to watch the kids together and it meant a lot to both Meredith and Lexie that Lexie had a relationship with Zola.

Meredith Wanted Lexie To Be A Bridesmaid (S5 Ep21)

In “Not Good Saying Sorry (One More Chance),” Meredith and Derek were planning on having a traditional wedding, and Meredith wanted Lexie to be a bridesmaid. Of course, they decided to give the wedding to Alex and Izzie in the end since it meant a lot more to them.

Even though the wedding didn’t take place, it was sweet and wholesome of Meredith to involve her half-sister in this big life event, and it meant a lot to Lexie since she believed she would only be a “plus one.” While Lexie seemed okay with being close from the start, Meredith needed some time. However, this moment cemented that Meredith considered her to be family.
