A Journey Begins: From Plains to Americus

The motorcade route for Rosalynn Carter’s funeral procession begins in the quaint town of Plains, Georgia. At 10 a.m., the procession will depart from downtown Plains, making its way via US 280 to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus.
After a brief departure ceremony at the hospital, the motorcade will continue on US 280, turning north on U.S. 19. As it travels through downtown Americus, it will turn right at West Lamar Street, eventually reaching Georgia Southwestern State University.
The procession will then enter the university via GSW State University Drive, leading to a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex. This touching tribute honors Mrs. Carter’s dedication to healthcare and humanitarian efforts.
After the wreath ceremony, the procession will leave the university, making its way back through downtown Americus and continuing towards the town of Butler.
A Scenic Route: From Butler to Atlanta
Join us as we travel through picturesque landscapes, from Butler to the bustling city of Atlanta.
Leaving Butler, the motorcade will travel 35 miles on U.S. 19 before turning right onto State Route 540/96 East. This scenic route will take us through 34 miles of beautiful countryside, as we make our way to Interstate 75 at Byron.
From there, we will travel north on I-75 for seven miles before transitioning to I-475 north, rejoining I-75 towards Atlanta. As we approach the city, we will enter John Lewis Freedom Parkway at Exit 248C, leading us to our final destination.
Arriving at The Carter Presidential Center around 2:30 p.m., we will pay our respects to Rosalynn Carter and her remarkable legacy. This iconic location serves as a testament to the Carter family’s contributions to our nation.
