When I received the offer to join JPMorgan, I couldn’t contain my excitement. It was the firm I had always dreamed of working for, and I was determined to make the most of this opportunity.

During my first year as an investment analyst at JPMorgan, I was immersed in a world of learning and growth. The exposure to various asset classes and the support of my team made me feel like I was truly living my dream.

Feeling the Pull Towards Impact Investing

Exploring the transformative moments that led me to realize the importance of impact investing and the desire to be part of a growth sector that makes a positive difference.

As my journey at JPMorgan progressed, I had the opportunity to volunteer at various client events and witness the power of impact investing. One particular experience that resonated with me was visiting Tencent’s headquarters and seeing how their facial recognition technology was being used to locate missing individuals in China.

These encounters with impact investing opened my eyes to the potential for financial growth while making a positive impact on society. It became clear to me that if I wanted to build a fulfilling career, I needed to be part of a growth sector that aligned with my values.

The Struggle with Work-Life Balance in Banking

Discussing the challenges I faced in the banking industry, including the lack of work-life balance and the constant pressure to be available at all times.

One of the main factors that pushed me away from banking was the work culture that didn’t align with my personal values. The concept of work-life balance was virtually non-existent, as I found myself constantly immersed in the financial markets and always on call for senior bankers and clients.

The demanding nature of the job took a toll on my well-being, and I realized that I needed a change that would allow me to have a healthier work-life integration.

Finding Autonomy in Private Investing

Sharing my transition to private investing and the sense of ownership and fulfillment I found in managing portfolio companies.

After leaving JPMorgan, I made the leap into private investing, seeking a more fulfilling career path. Joining a private investment firm provided me with the autonomy I craved and the opportunity to work closely with key decision-makers.

At my current company, I have taken on exciting secondments in different locations, such as Vietnam and Seattle. The ability to make a tangible impact on the portfolio companies I manage has given me a sense of ownership and fulfillment that I didn’t experience in my previous role.
